This was a point to point sprint tri with a pool swim. I was in the last wave scheduled to start at 9:30, so I got to the site of T2 at 7:00, to set up t2, and I rode my bike to the pool for a warm up on my bike. I set up T1, and then went for a light jog to test my calf. Did not feel great, so I thought I might be bagging the run. Then I stood around for a long time, as they were about 45 minutes behind.
My wave finally came, and the swim went well. They did a good job (at least in my lane) setting up the swimmers there was no feet tapping, no passing, or no banging into each other. I had an ok swim felt pretty good. The timing mat was clear outside, down a hill about 200 yards away from the pool exit which I thought was odd, but nonetheless my 500 yard swim turned out to be 6:42, 6th overall.
I felt like T1 went well, but my time tells otherwise, 1:49.
My bike felt very strong, and I only passed. I was not passed. It was fairly flat, with one good steep uphill, and a mild down hill. I kept my cadence above 85 for the entire race, and I think it paid off. By the way, I love my new bike! Bike time: 13.2 miles 36 minutes. 6th overall
T2 again slow. 1:18 this is primarily because I could not get my water bottle open to take a quick drink.
Run: first 1/2 mile I thought about quitting. I could definitely feel my pulled muscle. I took it fairly easy the first 2 miles, and then I felt good, so I turned it up a bit. Run time: 5k 21:24 20th overall.
Final result: 1 hour 7 minutes 36 seconds. 8th overall. All in all I am very happy with my first race of the season. This was my first ride on my new bike, and I have a bum leg. My goal was to finish in the top 10 and under 1 hour and 10 minutes, and I did both. So Great day for me!
