Fitness break through and Ironman

First, watching Ironman Canada on Sunday lit a fire in my heart that I need to do an Ironman!  Something about those words “you are an Ironman” gave me a craving that I need to hear!  Unfortunately (or fortunately), the opportunities that I would have to do them, IMAZ, IMCDA, and IMC are all sold out for 2008.  I was ready to sign up on Sunday, and a bit depressed when I found out I could not.  But after some insight from my coach I think that I will stick to 70.3 next season and plan on racing an Ironman in 2009.  If the season goes well next year Scott (Coach) said that there are some 70.3’s that I can race that will qualify for some Ironman races, so the door is still open for IM in 08.Anyway back to the now!  I am continually crashing through new fitness barriers with every workout.  Since training with Scott I have noticed my fitness levels increase dramatically.  My Bike climbing is feeling great, I did a 16 mile run on Sunday at 7:03 pace with my HR average under 160, and my last swim workout was the best I have had since High school.  I am really excited about my potential for Clearwater.  I need to make a conscious effort however to spend more time controlling my diet 95% of the time, not 60% of the time which is what I have been doing.  Starting today I am going to log everything that goes in my mouth.

Still working my butt off

The focus the last few weeks has been volume.  I have been logging a lot of hours, but feeling good.  Funny thing is I am training more, but I must be balancing my time more efficiently because I really am not noticing it.   My diet has not been all that stellar, especially last weekend when we  went to the coast for Elee’s Birthday.  I was 149 Friday am and 156 on Monday evening.  I have been much better this week and was 153 this morning.  For some reason I have been wanting more sugar lately, which I could always do without before.

I have just started thinking about my next race on Sept. 9th,  I did a couple loops on the bike course this week, and it is tough!  Some long steep climbs,  aggressive down hills, and lots of wind.    I plan to hit it a few more times primarily to get comfortable attacking the downhill.

I get a well deserved day off from training tomorrow, and then a 3 sport saturday for 5.5 hours, then a long run on Sunday.

Hard but strong week.

I am extremely motivated for Clearwater, and it felt great to push hard this week.  All in all I think I have 14 hours this week.   However I did skip mondays 1 hour light ride.  I was busy and I had ridden 3 hours Saturday when I was only supposed to go1.5.  I felt strong in all disciplines this week especially the swim.  My coach puts more focus on the swim than my previous plan did, and it is working out great.  It feels really good to be getting stronger in the water again.  I hope to go around25-26 minutes in my 1.2 miles at Clearwater.  My run also seem to be feeling stronger.  I am not sure if I am getting faster, but I feel stronger, which ultimately will lead to speed.  He has me doing track workouts once a week which I am sure will be beneficial.

Time to go again…

Filed under: Training Blogs, Weight — aleckalleckson @ 8:53 pm

Well since my vineman race I have basically taken a couple weeks off from hard training and have  mainly done  recovery stuff.  Today marked the begining of my new training regime in route for Clearwater (70.3 World Champs).  I am very excited to get going and start working hard with Scott.  The next 4 weeks look to be pretty tough as I will be logging quite a few hours boosting my aerobic foundation with high volume and  lots of vo2 max stuff.    I also have joined the Ironheads Triathlon Team and feel that this will help me immensly in my triathlon endeavors.

I tried to keep my diet clean over the last week and a half, and I guess its worked, I weighed in at 149 this morning, but I do feel a bit fatter.  Ideally I want to maintain this range 145-150, but do want to drop to below 7% BF.

Today kicked my arse, up early to swim HARD for an hour, an hour and a half at lunch on the bike doing intervals, then an evening Tempo run (sub 6).  My legs are aching as I type this.  I ought to sleep well tonight.

I do not plan to go into detail with my training in this blog over the next 3 months, as I did for vineman, rather just give a brief reflection of what I did on that day.

I have some pretty lofty expectations and goals over these next three months, and I plan to bust my butt even harder than I have before to reach them!
